I am a registered midwife, breastfeeding and lactation specialist, hypnobirthing teacher and a pregnancy and postnatal yoga teacher. I also became a mother myself in 2024 and this has only further deepened my interest in midwifery, breastfeeding, birthing education and motherhood. I understand how daunting pregnancy, birth and new motherhood can feel. It can be so full of joy, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be difficult or overwhelming sometimes too.

I graduated with a first-class honour's midwifery degree from King's College London, starting my midwifery journey in 2017, and have never looked back. To me midwifery is one of the most important, privileged, humbling and deeply responsible roles that exist. Supporting a woman to birth new life and to feel powerful and confident in herself, no matter how her baby is born, has far reaching and hugely significant implications for the rest of her life: physically, mentally and emotionally. I care deeply about this, I think we all should. It matters that we get this right.
I have spent many years working as an NHS midwife and whilst I am proud to do this, the flaws in NHS maternity care trouble me deeply. Supporting a woman to birth new life and to feel powerful and confident in herself, no matter how her baby is born, has far reaching and hugely significant implications for the rest of her life: physically, mentally and emotionally. I care deeply about this, I think we all should. It matters that we get this right. I believe that it is imperative anyone birthing in the NHS understands their rights, how to navigate the system and feels equipped and empowered to ask the right questions to ensure they get the birth and feeding journey that they want.
I speak openly and honestly on social media (@theauthenticmidwife) about the challenges and concerns midwives, women and their families face. I recognise that without changes in our healthcare system, the necessary changes that we need to see to ensure safe, informed, compassionate and individualised care cannot exist. That if midwives are made to work in unsafe conditions, it is women, birthing people and their babies that also suffer the consequences. And this is why birth preparation matters.
I care deeply about supporting women and their families, however that looks and whatever it is that you need. I am here to support you achieve the physiological waterbirth you want, or the planned c section that you’ve decided on. I simply care about ensuring that it’s your decision, and not a decision made by your healthcare provider without your understanding or informed consent.
I care about protecting women's birthing and human rights throughout pregnancy, labour and childbirth and I believe in facilitating education around how to make informed choices and decisions. I believe women and birthing people should fundamentally feel iconic following giving birth to new life, however your baby has been born. Pregnancy, childbirth, motherhood and parenthood is a huge journey - and I am here to support you through it.
